"What will you do with [your] extra decade of life...? 172
Do your possessions (or your desired possessions) contradict your values? 180
Are you actively degrading the earth as much or more than the people you argue with? 170
As I read these last few pages, I found myself feeling like I was being called out. So instead I am going to call myself out and acknowledge my hypocritical actions. Yes, I have always considered myself to be on the right side of our environmental issues, but as I sit here next plastic Dunkin’ cup, I can’t help but feel a little bit like a fraud. While it may just be a cup, I feel like at this point it's more than that. I don’t even want to get started on the amount of plastic products I have in my bathroom. For someone who considers themselves to be educated on this topic, I sure do possess too many of the wrong things. The real question is can I still consider to be on the right side even though I continue to consume these products? However, with this extra decade of life I have been given, that is one thing I am wanting to fix.
Along with fixing my consumption habits, there are a few more things I would like to spend my extra decade doing. I am very excited about my current career plans and look forward to seeing how everything unfolds, but I want to be sure that I work to live and not live to work. While I have traveled to many amazing places, there is still so much I want to see and do. I want to spend my time traveling, laughing, reading, going to museums, eating good food, and just enjoying the opportunity I have to be here on this planet.

Of course none of us can count on that extra decade, or even on next week, but the conscientious thing -- easier said than done, in a culture constantly distracting us with baubles and amusements (see Levi's comment below on "amusing ourselves to death") -- is to seize the day and start making the changes we know we ALL should. But yes, don't deny yourself laughs and good food and the wonder of knowing you're alive etc. Distance travel might be dicier, though, if we don't get serious about reviving the rails etc.
