There's a similar organization working in the Southeast too. Not enough people realize the importance of grassland and prairie ecosystems, which can in some instances store more carbon than forests, and the fact that the southern US was prior to European settlement primarily made up of prairies and relatively woodlands. Often due to the overzealous prevention of forest fires in the past two centuries.
