COME TOGETHER

Probably one of the most significant things to come out of this election is the realization that we need to come together. Trump and Trumpism simply was not repudiated as many, including me, hoped it would be. After four years of insane chaos and despicable behavior, nearly half of a very large turnout of voters chose Trump. What does that say about us? And it's "us," not "them." I encourage you to click on this twitter link to Bill Maher speaking, in his clear way, on this need. While watching this, John Lennon's "Come Together" kept going through my mind. Maybe that should be the theme song for rallies.

  1. I've not looked at Bill Maher yet, I'm not a fan... but if you insist, I will.

Re:"coming together," In my "Democracy in America" MALA course next semester we're reading Talisse's "Overdoing Democracy" which contends that in a healthy democracy people find ways of coming together in arenas that have nothing to do with politics. There was an interesting discussion of that on "On Being" this afternoon...

@onbeing @kristatippett echoes @RobertTalisse in "Overdoing Democracy," urging we "get to know each other... across all these divisions and categories that don’t utterly define us"-common ground via Van Morrison, maybe?
