the power of essence

Unless capitalism is really just human nature in disguise, I don’t think human nature is what we are fighting against. I truly believe that human nature is better than that, or I at least hope it is. It does seem however, that over time human nature, for the most part, has deteriorated sadly. I have recently been reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, and in the introductory chapter he mentions the concept of consciousness and the idea of presence. He states that “once there is a certain degree of Presence, of still and alert attention in human beings’ perceptions, they can sense the divine life essence, the one indwelling consciousness or spirit in every creature, every life-form, recognize it as one with their own essence and so love it as themselves.” We as a society seem to have lost this essence, at least that is what it seems like.

Capitalism has played a part in this loss of essence. We, as a society I guess, have become obsessed with the idea of gaming some form of profit regardless of what it takes. Maybe it is just western colonialism at its finest really. That is the problem. The top whatever percent has been making earth killing decisions in favor of their pockets. They do not care what happens to the rest of us, or to everything else that exists on this planet. That is our biggest climate problem that we are faced with right now. We are going down the rabbit hole and in order to climb from that hole, I believe we all will need to find that essence. It is the only way.

  1. Eckert Tolle's "divine life essence" talk doesn't quite speak to me, but the idea that whatever our "nature" has been does not prevent us from changing for the better definitely does. The key point is not to lock ourselves into any notion of fated powerlessness in the face of selfish and narrow profiteers.

  2. I agree with your thoughts about capitalism being human nature in disguise. I think that a lot of people in the cookie cutter 50's family household was in a way brainwashed into believing that capitalism was sent by god and any ideologies coming from another country should be shunned. Ironic because we are such a diverse culture and pride ourselves in that. Anyways, I think alot of the children from these 50's cookie cutter families used the ideologies their parents bestowed onto them to create things like our flawed elementary, middle, and highschool (not college though we can learn about whatever we want here, for the most part) educational systems that decide upon things for their future kids to learn to furthermore brainwash kids (like they were in the 50's) into thinking that America is second to none. I think that our generation has pushed through this mold a bit this year which I think is mighty and the best thing that has happened in 2020. Lots of scattered thoughts in this comment and nothing close to a fact in it but sometimes its fun just to rant and possibly start a conversation!
