What should we be doing to promote "widespread environmental education" (40) that we're not doing?
I believe we need to implement environmental education as early as pre school. we should. incorporate it in our lesson plans and explain how the environments works and how it operates. As Robin Attfield stated "Appreciation and love of nature are much more likely to be fostered through frequent outdoor visits to parks and wild habitats than through lessons restricted in classrooms." I completely agree . students should learn about the environment outside in the environment. rt it reading about the environment is important but you would have a better appreciation and Understanding of it just by being outside amongst it all.
That's one aspect of Waldorf education I wholly approve... At least when we were hunting for pre-schools that's something that impressed me about the local chapter, their commitment to getting young children outdoors as normal everyday practice (just when public schools were eliminating recess, in exchange for drill-and-kill test prep). Maybe we need a hybrid of Waldorf and Peripatetic pedagogy for kids.
