Discussion Questions

  • Is it fair to place at least some blame on the average person who has investments in market accounts that hold shares in "dirty" energy companies? Because shareholders seem to be the enablers for the profit-driven oil companies; without people holding shares the company fails.
  • Is there any kind of realistic alternative to flying? Would it make more sense to invest in technology that gives us a low-energy means to cross continents?

  1. *Very fair. Necessary, in fact.

*I'm holding out for those flying bicycles in "Pacific Edge". And solar-powered locomotives.

  2. For the second question, I honestly don't think there is a suitable and efficient means of transportation that could potentially replace flying. Air travel is very fast compared to driving or travel by train. I think our best option is to continue what Branson worked to accomplished and discover a more environmentally conscious fuel alternative or redesign our aircraft to be significantly more fuel efficient.

  3. Yes it is fair to blame them. If there were no share holders then some of these oil companies would not exist.

  4. As of now flying makes the most sense. However we do need to invest in technologies that make flying more efficient and not pollute as much.
